Not sure I followed all of that, but I don't expect him to be completely truthful. I'd just like to at least get confirmation he's who these other guys are saying he is.
For all we know, they killed a random guy in the city and are parading the body around like the big scary beast is slain, when in reality they were conspiring with him the whole time to fake his death. It's worth calling their bluff on that much. If he tells us anything else, true or false, it still might be useful.
